May 18, HFK rated it liked it Shelves: To inform any citizen of Finland who might come across this review that there’s a citizens’ initiative to legalize euthanasia, it requires 50 verified signatures to get the chance to go on the table of Finland’s parliament.
I encourage everyone who feels this subject to be close to their hearts to go and give it a supporting signature. Author Derek Humphry wrote this book for terminal ill people, or people with diseases that make their Update 8. Author Derek Humphry wrote this book for terminal ill people, or people with diseases that make their everyday life a constant suffering without a hope for the cure. This book is aimed to people who are favor of euthanasia, for people who support the one’s right to choose a “good-death”, which makes this a book that is not about the debate of should or should not, nor is it a book where the ethical, religious and moral questions for favor and against are dealt with.
There is other books for that. Derek Humphry wishes the readers of this book to respect this to be a work for terminal ill patients with a will of “good-death”, and doing so, encourages people with depression and other mental illnesses to seek professional help, but at the same time highlights that he is in no position to prevent this book to be used by people to who it is not intended to.
Sounds reasonable to me. Derek Humphry is also a person who assisted his terminal ill wife to her death in the 70’s but is also a person who would not automatically choose euthanasia for a solution to himself. I am favor of euthanasia. I believe the right of an individual to choose a peaceful death with dignity as much as I respect individuals choices to die without assisted death.
I have seen enough death, some good, most not, to be at peace with my opinion and views on this subject. I do recognize the problematic of it, if and when euthanasia would be widely and legally accepted, from the point of view of the health care professionals, and I do require as does most in favor well documented, well discussed, and well-thought process before entering into the final exit with a helping hand.
I do believe that euthanasia as a solution for terminal diseases will gain more and more popularity and acceptance, and the major debate will be over the cases that results from the mental side, such as the latest case of where a 20 year old woman was given permission for euthanasia mostly due to mental reasons.

Shall it be noted that the info that is available of this case in many sources, I have no objections whatsoever. This book is a guide. It is a good guide. Finall is a needed guide. And it is guide that most people should read. It gives you step by step guidance of how to prepare for “good-death” from the start to the end, detailing laws, loved ones, testaments and ways. There is no more to it than that. It is in depth, it is better than the internet, and most importantly it always highlights the seriousness of this situation a dsrek may someday face.
This is what professionalism is. It is better guide to Americans than it is to other nationalities because the laws are ever changing, state by state, country by country, which makes this less benefiting to individuals around the other parts of the world. But even those individuals including me will gain a good knowledge of where to find more advice such derekk legalwhere to go, what to consider, and how to move forward. View all 7 comments.

With my personal attachment to the idea of suicide, I found it very bothersome that this book has been published albeit, understandably, self-published.
There are diagrams, step-by-step guides, tips, etc. You have the picture? With the way the laws are right now aside from Oregonthis is, in a way, necessary for those who want to end their lives but cannot seek assistance from a professional. On the same note, if it were legalized in this country, as it has been in Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, etc, this manual would not be necessary I also believe that if someone really wanted to commit suicide, for whatever reason, they would be able to find a way via the internet, friends, research, etc.
Also, most suicides due to psychiatric diagnoses involve an ambivalent person, looking for a way out, but also wanting someone to save exot.
Dereo book, therefore, simply makes it easier for said individuals to execute their rightfully-ambivalent plan. This is certainly not a good thing. I’m not sure how I feel about the widespread availability of these tips on committing suicide, rinal I do see both sides of the argument.
Sep 17, Lou rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Why am I rating a book on assisted suicide so highly? Because this is not a book about death.
It’s a book about life. It doesn’t attempt to answer questions for you even though it states an opinion. It only prompts you to ask various questions of yourself. Who’s job is it to value it? There are many questions worth answering and while Humphries does not pretend deerek be the purveyor of all of the answers on the subject, he’ll definitely get you to thinking whether you agree with him or no Why am I rating a book on assisted suicide so highly?
There are many questions worth answering and while Humpry does not pretend derdk be the purveyor of all of the answers on the subject, he’ll definitely get you to thinking whether you agree with him or not. If you’re open-minded, you can read it and gain from it even if you decide, in the end of the book, to disagree for whatever reasons you have. I recommend it to everyone but as a parent, be informed that it does describe a method finxl taking one’s own life.

It says in the book that although suicide is not encouraged the book was written for people who suffer from a fatal or irreversible illness or intractable pain, someone who feels that their quality of life is unacceptable to them, or someone who may just derke that their future is hopeless.
Complete with recipes for death this book ecit reminds the person reading to put a plastic bag over their head after taking however many pills it tells you to take. It is also written to always leave this book beside you with a suicide note inside so no-one will think of your death as anything other than suicide.
As far as I can tell there is not a person on earth that should have to live derel they dont want to according to this book; it seems to cover everyone.
I do not think that taking a bunch of pills and placing a plastic bag over your head would be a good way to go, imagine convulsing around the room throwing up inside the bag on your head for a moment. Best to gumphry to a state that allows assisted suicide.
This is the book for the people that can not get the suicide pill.
